Help Creating a setup

@AzevedoNuno:
@drhicom has owed me a keg of beer for close to a year. So do not expect him to pay off on that free lunch.

(or maybe I owe him the keg?)

No, 56 plots gets you apx $2.28 usd per month, minus electric.

Thats really overkill imho to plot only 36 drives, id buy a lower spec plotter and more hdd.
Tbh, id actually probably just buy coin…

Do an analysis on roi and decide yourself.

I can put 72 hdd 16tb each but I will have more profit. how much??

Depends on how much it costs you vs how much you sell it for.

You really need to do some research here

$433.09 per month apx minus elec, but no plotter has been priced in.
Where do you live? Can you write off equipment and running costs tax wise?

Look at what coin you can potentially mine vs buy, i imagine trying to mine vs just buying is a gamble itself.
With added maintenance costs.

But pls, do your own analysis.

Thank`s for your help.
I been Thinking and if i buying:
CPU 128 threads
Ram 226 Gb
M2 4 ssd x 4Tb
i can do +/- 56 plots

56 plots in Chia calculator =$2
The value of $2 is wrong. Correct

way, way overdone.
im plotting + farming on a ryzen 5 cpu with 16gb ram.

Keep in mind that your hdds will be full some day or you can only expand x hdds a month and then your 128t plotter is basically waste, unless you want to build a multi PB farm.

I would recommend for starting:
2 Devices, both of which dont need to be spaceship. In fact, people are farming on raspberry pies:

Full node (which holds the blockchain and where farmers connect):

  • min 8gb ram
  • min 2 core cpu
  • min 1x 2TB nvme
  • 1-2 Lan ports

Farmer/Plotter (as many as needed for the hdds):
You can use basically anything as a farmer (such as a raspberry pie) but if you want to be farming/plotting on the same device:

  • min 6 core CPU
  • min 16 gb ram
  • plenty hdd expansion capabilities (PCI-E)
  • Lan port
  • 1 ssd/nvme for operating system (min 500gb)
  • min 1 nvme 500 gb for plotting.
Recommended: 500 gb sata ssd for system & 2x >500gb nvme plotting

If you are choosing to plot/farm on separate machines, then choose a power efficient farmer and more powerfull plotter. You will need to transfer harddisks from plotter to farmer later.
I would only recommend that for large scale farms.

I currently have > 30 HDDs with > 300 TB on a single farmer while plotting on it and havent found the limit yet. as said, its a ryzen 5.
if you are farming/plotting on the same device, you want to reserve 2 threads for the farmer or set its process priority to high, so that it does not compete with the plotter.

You might encounter several issues such as power supply in 5 v line, disk check with available ram and so on. Best start slowly and extend as you learn and overcome obstacles. Used enterprise gear might save you a lot of tinkering (psu for hdds, sas-expander cards)

Now he remembers, We’ll eat Pizza and both down the kegg

I haven’t heard anything about Mitch Miller for years…

Thanks for the info.
Can you tell me with the setup just like yours how many chia you get per month.
To find out ROI.
And again thank you

All cases are unique, and very much depends on

And cost of electric.

Youre also starting late so will farm less before reward reduction.

Its guite possible you could never farm as many coins as you could buy.
Im not saying this to put you off, but because its true.

Okay, I understand what you’re saying. But without correct values it is difficult to invest.
I’m used to ASIC. For example ASIC L7 9.5 costs $9000 and a net profit of $450 every month already taking the cost of electricity and is plug and play.
I was willing to invest that money but without knowing the return and complicated

I provided a link for you to get potential farmed xch numbers.
What other values do you need?

( your above statement doesnt even consider difficulty, an important factor )

I’ve already done the math to have the same yield as a ASIC i have got to spend over $9000
I need to have 16546 plots=1.6PiB minimum

Ok then have a great lunch…

Ok, so if youve done the math on that.

Have you done the math on how many xch you could buy with

Vs how many xch that equipment could farm?

Because at current price, personally i would buy coin over equipment.

But its very much dependant on personal choice and

9000÷32 = 281.25 xch

1.6 pib will currently get apx 22 xch pm.
281 / 22 = apx 13 mnths

So that looks good, but no elec calcd, or pool fees, plotter, plotting cost, farmer, taxes.

And 9000 / 1600 tib = 5.625.!
Can you really buy 1.6 pb @ 5.625 per tb ?

thats my farm.
The infos shown there are correct, although the total payed$ earnings arent. They suppose I kept all payouts from the beginning… Which i didnt. Chia price fell, so its more than that. Can’t really tell more insights as I’m not tracking it closely currently. It’s peanuts right now anyways.

the current reward section is accurate though. You can multiply it by 1.125 (that is the reward which gets payed out directly to the wallet, rather than through the pool.

Farming status: Farming
Total chia farmed: 2.50095201458
User transaction fees: 0.00095201458
Block rewards: 2.5
Last height farmed: 3070452
Local Harvester
0 plots of size: 0.000 MiB
Remote Harvester for IP: 192.168.1.52
3635 plots of size: 359.770 TiB
Plot count for all harvesters: 3635
Total size of plots: 359.770 TiB
Estimated network space: 19.925 EiB
Expected time to win: 1 week and 5 days

thats the output of chia farm summary, I think the Block rewards 2.5 are the corresponding 12.5% which do not get payed through the pool but directly would fit with the 24.6 total chia farmed.

So, if we add that together, that makes roughtly 4.75$ per day (although I like the 4:20), 32.86 a week or 126 per month

thats bs. With a pool, you can expect roughly the same outcome +/- 12.5%

The other points are quite valid.

You have to keep in mind, that you wont start with 300 TB.
No matter the speed at which you are plotting, it will take some time untill you reach there. Until then, you only get rewards equal to how much you plotted. Until your target is full, the situation will likely have turned - for better or worst.

To answer your question? It’s not for the faint of heart.
