How do I restart?

Hi all,

I’m very new to the community even though I did Chia Plotting 3 years ago (then stopped). I still have the *.plot files on my HDD and .chia and .chia_keys in my home folder (I’m using a mac).

I need some help to continue where I left off (plotting) and start farming maybe soon if that’s possible

Current situation, just some bullet points:

    • I downloaded the latest official Chia app. When I run it, it gets stuck at “starting service.”
    • I made a backup of the .chia and .chia_keys folders and deleted them from my home folder. Now the Chia app starts normally and lets me add my wallet using the 24 words, which I did successfully. Is there anything valuable in the old .chia and .chia_keys folders? Are my old *.plot files going to continue to work with the newly generated .chia and .chia_keys? If yes, can I delete the .chia.old and .chia_keys.old folders?
    • Now the app is just syncing. It’s been about 1 hour, and it’s going to take a long time to complete syncing, I think:

Which version of chia do you have installed and have you upgraded. If your chia is very old you still may be on db_v1 which needs to be upgraded to db_v2.
.
Just type “chia db upgrade” in CLI, then the process starts.
.
Make sure you have lots of free space on your C:\ if your using windows. Samsung EVO SSD disks are cheap, (500gb or better)

@xwu is using a Mac.

If @xwu wants to upgrade from the v1 database to the v2 database, I do not think that a 500 GB drive will have enough space for that operation.

Yes, a 500 GB drive will hold the v2 blockchain. But I do not think that it has enough space to hold the v1 database while it performs the v2 database creation.

Your newly generated keys should be identical to your old keys, because you did a fresh Chia installation, and you told it to use your original 24 words.

You can download the blockchain files via a torrent, from here:

That is odd.
If they are zero bytes, then they are empty files, and of no use.

Any idea how those files had their contents removed?
There could be an issue somewhere. Those files should have remained intact. Nothing should be emptying them.

Id guess they were fails that were not noticed at the time.
