How do you setup your servers

I have 3 dell servers (2x 710 32tbs each, 1x 720 32 tbs). I was going to set the 720 to do plotting and the 710s for farming and expanding storage.

Running 2 servers for only 32tb each seems excessive.
One could easily host >20 x that id imagine.

If you’re in a hurry to get plots online, you could plot with 2 (or even all three!) for a couple weeks to fill up your drives, then switch gears to a standard plotter rig and farming rig setup.

  • edit: unless you’re sticking with the 32TBs on each, it may only take a couple days to fill, so possibly not worth the trouble

That’s what I was considering doing.

Just sell your hardware and buy XCH. Higher profits in the long run. And yes, 32 TB per server is a joke. Just check your electricity counter. That setup probably eats > 600W, making it 14.4kWh a day. At 0.20 cents per kWh you have costs of $2.88 a day, $86.4 a month. That 2x32 TB is prolly making $14 a month. Net loss of $72… Even with 66% lower electricity costs that cannot be profitable.

Buy some disk enclosures and connect all the drives to one machine.

Other than a test setup so see how everything works, it’s a lot to run as has been said.
Using one for a cheap plotter is fair enough, as you can turn it off when your done.

I inherited them so seeing how others have done their setup but I was considering max plot than get enclosures connected to the 720 and sell the others.

If you are handy in Linux and do some bash scripting, i would plot on all 3. That power draw for farming with the 720 (I had a few of them) is way too high to make sense, but plotting with it will be awesome.

Man, this is insane, or you are crazy…
Stay with only one to plot and sell the others… And invest in Hdd.
I use an i3 to farm with more than 500Tb and it uses only 20% of the processor.
Think about it…

you sir need proxmox.
3 node cluster dont get no beter
proxmox is the endgame hyper visor.
it goes before all other systems.
tons of magic and power in a simple 3 node cluster…

just utilize your storage correctly from the beginning.

with proxmox installed on all 3 servers you can setup failover and hyper availability… meaning no downtime for your farmer ever… u can further virtualize harvesters n the rest of the stack as individual service containers…
distributed shared storage among many other spells
everything can go inside proxmox, docker, portainer, kubernetees, misc iso and imgs. linux flavors.

all accessed headlessly from a web browser…

magic

proxmox = masterful
