There is a huge drop in chia netspace after filter halving. From 27.35 EiB to 12.91 EiB. More than half!
is it a bug or are people with compressed plots struggling to send partials in time?
I think it is mostly due to how netspace is estimated.
The plot filter has gone from 512 to 256…so more plots pass so more partials and proofs are expected BUT the averages for the last 24h are now half what we expect in the future.
So over 24h it will zoom back up to previous value, minus the overloaded farms, minus the farms on old incompatible software
My farm just stopped farming at that time(I’m using noSSD so I could found 0 shares since half has begun). Now I restart the farm and find GPU 100% overload(before half it can have a rest 50% of the time), so that maybe a bit of the reason from my point of view.
Yeah that explanation makes sense,
Also I think that there are a lot of people out there that are over compressed.
I think compressed plot files will only affect 1-2 eib.
I think the main reason for this huge decline is due to the software developers not being able to manage the coin. Simply put, they can’t even communicate with us miners.
Sean from Space Pool says:
We have just crossed the hardfork block and stats will appear strange over the next 24 hours.
- The total netspace appears to have dropped by 50%, this is expected and will recover once the blockchain catches up with the plot filter change in about 24hrs
- The pool netspace and your farm size will experience the same 50% drop for a day
- Your farm size appears 50% smaller but so does everyone else’s and therefore your reward share will remain the same”
A lot of us made a point of replotting to slightly less compression well before the filter halfing, as we SAW this issue heading in.
The actual eventual effect I suspect will be fairly small.
That was intentional to keep the same partials / hour.
That was just a display bug, now it’s accurate again.
So far it looks like we lost 2-3 EiB.
If you compare to 7 days ago yes.
No. The first one is just 2 (two) days ago! I have checked the date of my photo. Whats your point?
Its clear that some big farms have over compressioned their plots and can not pass the 256 filter?
Right before the fork it was reading 25.3 EiB, that’s what I compared against.
Yes, and some people never updated their node.
A lot of people which have compressed plots are now forced to replot.
As opposed to those of us that looked at the plot filter effects, and spent significant time replotting small parts of out farm to a slightly lower compression level ahead of time.
