New chia world record. its back from 16$ :(

accumulating xch. the lower the better. also farming!

It’s peanuts compared to what I’ve spent, I’m not worried, annoyed a little maybe.

I hope we “get back into the game”…

As long as I’m still profitable, I’ll keep working Chia.
But that’s starting to look like “time to shut down” before we get the new plot format, and possibly by the end of this year.

Already been looking into alternates.

I guess another world record :face_with_raised_eyebrow: … just not the good kind.

If someone can profitably farm Chia at this level … please explain…

Energy cost alone is typically more than this per XCH … unless it’s free

… not even mentioning any other cost.

There are still around 60k nodes out there of which around 8.8k are in the US alone. Kind of surprising is that for the past about a month the nodes / peers decline stopped for some reason.

Although, CNI doesn’t have stats about the distribution of farm sizes (whales vs. single HD). Also, in addition to “Peer Map (by country)” it would be nice to have effective HD space per country.

Energy cost at less then 5 cents/kwh helps a lot.
I didn’t say I am making a LOT at this price, or meeting gear “replacement” costs though.

Certainly the ‘space’ has been steadily declining to 21.3EiB currently.

Likely nodes are reducing their exposure (size) but not stopping all together.

I had been doing the same, removing some 2 ePiBs from farming over the last weeks.

Today I just turned everything remaining off.

Are you using Bladebit again???

I guess no more Gigahorse updates!!!

Madmax seems to be putting all his efforts lately into his MMX project.
Given the new plot format in the not SUPER distant future, I doubt he’d bother updating Gigahorse at this point anyway - it’s already pushing top end available hardware to the limit.

The big question I have is “what exchange(s) is it going to be tradeable through at first” and “what is the price going to be like in the first year”, followed somewhat distantly with “how big is the mainnet going to grow to in that first year”.
Which pretty much amounts to “how profitable is if going to be vs Chia” - I already know it’s a TON easier to plot for than SpaceMesh.

It may be that mid-to-high farms are shutting down faster, and that would be just few nodes, but a bit of netspace (e.g., your 2PB). On the other hand, majority of nodes are maybe those with a handful of HDs attached, and running on gaming boxes, so not that much to run those and gains for those tiny farms are going up. I guess, no one will bother calculating how much one/two HDs are costing to run per month.

I added two 18TB drives back last night…

To try and reach my target XCH amount quicker, the target being when I turn my farm off, which is about four weeks time.

My farm has been off, all bar about 80TB, since mid June. It will no doubt be on again in the next week or two, because the small amount of heat might be needed.

At this point however, I’m considering it as a heater for my office which costs less to run than it would ordinarily, nothing more.

When it comes back on, it’ll be adding only another 500TB or so. A year ago, I had 12PB online, but that space was “on loan” and unused other than for Chia, so I made use of it whilst I could, but it is now relocated and I no longer administer it.

Exactly.

That’s what I mentioned during the halving,
before the holidays.

For a large group of people (+/- 100 TiB), the XCH farm is not an investment
in the sense of pure economics; rather a conservative form - if the project is successful - to continue being present in it (especially those who did not believe in BTC or ETC in the past). For these people, even if they lose on further farming, this is an insignificant amount from their point of view (they spend more on hot dogs or cola every day in town). However, it would be stupid if in two or five years it turned out that they got rid of the coin for pennies, when it is worth something.

That’s why I mentioned that most will stay with us for a long time…

Although on the scale of the last 6 months, the delta is also impressive…

That’s why I’m keeping my XCH, its worth quite a bit even now, but I can afford not to cash it in just in case it goes up significantly.

I’ve not sold any XCH, so I’ve farmed at a loss ever since I started

Where will you sell it if the need/time arises ?

I hear you my brother in this hobby land…
