NoSSD Chia Pool update! GPU mining, 50.3GiB plots, >200% reward, new CPU & GPU plotters

I don’t see that post when I go to nossd telegram.
Perhaps you have to use that application to see it, not just the website it’s on?

I don’t have anything that will run “applications” as far as I know.

Screenshot from my Telegram.

Neat - seems like NoSSD is back in the argument.
All of the C30+ plots are smaller than the 50.3 GiB of C15.

gonna have to re-arrange my RAM to replot, which is a bit of a minus, and what used to be my fastest plotter machine (the 5950x) can’t do it at all in all-RAM any more as it’s hardware limited to 128GB.

I’m glad I waited for this though. I wonder why they need so much temp file on 128GB machines?

Centralized overlords don’t like it when you ask a lot of questions in a dictatorship.

NoSSD, or should I say yourGPU/RAM, keeps cracking the whip for more, more, more RAM, faster, faster, faster GPUs with 5000 series around the corner gosh darn it! lol. C40, C50, C60 could be “private” label compression versus the public one’s readily available today.

Thankfully, my motherboard goes up to 256GB of RAM, but I originally started with a low-RAM workstation PC consumer so/so grade GPU. I loved the Raspberry Pi and Apple inclusion part of the Chia project. I’m enjoying learning linux 101. It’s the lack of transparency with NoSSD that’s troubling and the movement of the PreFarm prior to said IPO which may end up being a teachable moment/lesson for other crypto projects in the future; but that’s in the rearview mirror now. Perhaps NoSSD is a pet project with connections to one of the Big Tech Giants’ vast resources is what I tell myself. lol

This slow walk towards max compression and the spiral type of pattern feels like an arms race towards a 99.999% compression rate, akin to PoW, with a very secretive “just trust me, bro” mentality. I look forward to seeing how this sce·nar·i·o plays out down range for the project, keeping my chips on the table for the long haul. I’ve controlled my farm’s growth, and my state’s electricity rate is still reasonable.

I originally joined the project July '21 because of the lack of GPU grinding, which was falsely blamed for global warming, while Bitcoin was rising from under 10K.

Chia, like Bitcoin, has an amazing premise.

Real competition between developers has sped up the evolution of this network. I appreciate the competitiveness from NoSSD developers. It’s a bittersweet type of partnership/interaction/relationship for me.

It irks me, but in their own way, NoSSD is helping the project evolve faster, and for that, I’m very grateful.

I can’t figure out what you mean AT ALL by your second sentence.

I went from commonly around .4 to around .79 yesterday despite the slightly higher stales rate, probably because so many other farmers didn’t re-plot ahead of time to handle the filter change. I don’t anticipate this lasting, unless the net pool stays dropped a ton.

(next day update) netspace seems to be recovering from a temporary peak low around 19EiB to currently more like 22. Payments dropped back down some, still over .6 though.

Perhaps you should ask the NoSSD overlords why they haven’t incorporated CHIP22 into the latest release? (when they propose a replot) Why are they not supporting CHIP22 which they said was a good solution for the network?

Why are they not willing to put effort into something they supported which has been waiting for months with crickets coming from them?

NoSSD supported CHIP22, but since its release months ago NoSSD has been silent. When are NoSSD going to incorporate it? Another replot sounds like the perfect time, but once again NoSSD ignored it, hoping you do too.

Nakamoto Coefficient is important, so why isn’t NoSSD supporting CHIP22 which they agreed to on github and said would benefit the community?

For a startup company that is VC funded, the normal route is to get another round when the bank account is dry. If the project runs smoothly, a normal up-round is expected (investment based on a higher valuation). On the other hand, when the project doesn’t go as expected (e.g., zero progress on the business side), either VCs are not biting it anymore, or will only invest in down-round (valuation correction downwards).

What it also means is that if VCs are not interested in another round (or company doesn’t want to accept down-round), the IPO underwriters are not excited as well. So, the likelihood of an IPO is rather slim (if at all).

The fact that CNI has ~50 employees and is selling ~50k XCH per month means that they need to sell about that much to pay for company upkeep. However, that puts an average employee expenditure at around $30k/month what is a bit high for a company that has potentially most of its workforce abroad (and without the need for an office space). (This kind of indicates that the company is top-heavy, what is maybe not that good for a startup that is still fighting for a survival.) As CNI really needs to sell that 50k XCH/month, that puts some down-pressure on XCH price,

CNI has allready OFFICIALLY announced a new format for plot files that should be very minimally compressable.
The spiral should be breaking somewhat soon.

The 165GB RAM isn’t a game breaker for me except on that one machine, I’ve got other servers that can handle a lot more (one was built originally to run 512GB as a BladeBit RAM plotter). I just can’t use one specific of my machines to work on the replot (I’m not willing to burn SSDs and it’s not set up for many hard drives).

I’ll also point out that NoSSD has tended to have LESS requirements for a given plotting level than anyone else - and the most current round of compression THEY DID NOT START.

yall can build a 192gb system on am5 like no problem, or just brr a $40 nvme drive until it dies

If they do make it to IPO, I’ll be shorting it for sure.

I don’t really understand why anyone thinks that going to a new more compression resistant plot format will bring higher coin prices for Chia. I also don’t understand why anyone would think that if CNI is losing community members/farmers that is good. Okay, I get that netspace shrinks and you get more Xch but when that happens the project dies. I honestly wouldn’t buy Xch at 1 buck a coin because looking at the price history it is only logical to assume that it will continue to devalue. The entire crypto market has had a resurgence this year and the vast majority of coins have shared in this resurgence except Xch and a few outliers. No one will go near these outliers except a few gamblers. You say the premine does not affect the price. I do not understand how it could not.
All this being said, this is still my number 1 hobby. I also enjoy this community. I am not trying to stir the pot. Anyone please feel free to reply. I think back and forth banter is healthy.

In my mind there is only two things that will drive up the price, utility for the coin, or demand for the coin because people think it will increase in value.

There doesn’t seem to either at the moment.

+ people needing to buy xch to pay for transactions … super long term

Last time I checked, there weren’t DDR5 modules big enough to build anything larger than 96GB on AM5 on a standard 4 RAM slot motherboard.
That was a large part of the reason I went with an AM4 platform - could get to 128GB at least with DDR4 and 4 slots.

Have you bothered looking at the PRICE on motherboards with 8 or more slots and DDR4 or better RAM?

You can get 48G non ECC DIMMs now, I have a few nodes running with Micron 48G modules, the ECC ones are super hard to come by if you can even find em.

over $570 for a set of 4 of the 48 GB modules, from the only ones I could find on Newegg.
I doubt they’re much less anywhere else.
Is DDR5 backwards compatable with DDR4? If not, I’d ALSO have to replace the MB and CPU, which is ANOTHER several hundred dollars for anything comparable to my 5950x (close to or a little MORE than the memory itself).
Cheaper to buy a PNY “Chia SSD” instead by a WIDE margin.

Turns out that Telegram has a Linux based program - but I can’t use it as it REQUIRES you to log in with a QR code or have something you can send a SMS text to - I have nothing to scan a QR code, nor do I have any form of a Cellular device.
Bloody STUPID design decision on the part of whoever is behind this Telegram garbage to REQUIRE you to have a cell phone to use it, and even stupider on the part of NoSSD to post information on this Telegram garbage INSTEAD OF ON THEIR OWN WEB SITE.

I think they mentioned in a couple of days on Telegram.

I’m thinking of just replotting C33 to replace my C15 plots. Anyone more adventurous going for higher compressions?

any news of remote compute?
I dont have telegram, can you ask them?
