Is there any other way to secure the 8444 port or disable it totally without affecting the farming process?
Do you have this port (8444) forwarded in your router to your farmers fixed IP address?

If you don’t allow outbound connections to other Chia nodes on port 8444, then your client won’t be able to talk to other peers and sync or submit blocks.

If you’re trying to farm on wifi that you don’t control, your options might be limited. I have considered bringing a laptop to work to do some plotting instead (since offline is an option) but decided it’s not worth leaving a laptop that’s powerful enough to do any serious work sit around in a semi-public space. I work with people that steal wallets and smokes, a computer is too risky.
