Show off your rigs!

well after all my hard work on making my own Jbod’s I got a great deal (basically free) on something better. So here’s the new rig: 32 hdd’s with room for 40 more and currently rather quiet and great hdd temps.

The way you mounted it, it draws a warm air from the top, warms it a bit, dumps it at the bottom so it will raise up to the incoming side a little warmer to be recycled again. Kind of bad way of circulating hot air.

Although, I like how simple you made it (will try with mine).

Yeah the air direction is really not ideal.
Reversing the airflow is tricky because of the psu fan. And mounting it the other way round is much more difficult.
Good thing is that only half the bays are full so there is a lot of room for air to move. Come summer I might have to pute some extra fans on top, I’ll see.

Maybe just a simple “duct” at the bottom that would direct air to either left or right would help. Does not need to be extended, I think. Kind of two-sided L cover that would extend from the left and front down to the bottom but leave the right side open. This way, it will not restrict the airflow, but will prevent it from rising all over the JBOD.

hmmm that’s not a bad idea at all. I want to clean everything up a bit anyway since the case isn’t exactly a pretty sight. I also have a whole lotta fans lying around so I could also maybe use those to redirect the hot exhaust away from the case.
None of it is a problem now, but in summer my room can get as hot as 28C so…

Let’s use this long running thread to showcase our various rigs we’re using for both plotting and farming.

did you make that yourself? Looks pretty cool

NO,I bought it and it cost me 3000 RMB

Can I ask how much you invested? Must be north of 250k USD? What are you making a month, I’d guestimate around $7k USD?

From an ROI standpoint, is it what you expected, with CHIA around 30-40 USD? Would love to hear a bit more about the economics, if you don’t mind…

if you have the most efficient farming rig with around 0.4Wh/TiB. You have plotted for <0.1$/plot. Your ROI, just for HDDs, is around 5 years (assuming you get 20TB drives for <14$/TB)

With usual energy costs ~0.3€/Wh…you will be at 7 years ROI, assuming XCH is around 38$.

I estimate an investment of 500k in all that I have related to Chia. It generates 7k USD per month right now at today’s prices. I don’t bother looking at ROI at today’s prices because I think we are in the “as low as it will go” phase of the bear market – the true market value of XCH right now should be $300 to $400 per XCH in my opinion.

Why should it?
That seems far to high to me.
Care to share?

Whos actually using it?

It is pretty simple co forumers . For Chia to jump to 300$ or 400$ it must become mainstream for any kind of real world use. And be sure that if that happens the netspace will increase accordingly. I think the netspace will grow also 10x from now. When things started it simply couldn’t jump that high so easily because plotting was at best about 15 minutes plots. Now with a supercomputer and little bit tweaking you can do plots in seconds. I remember in the 2021 when Chia was at 1000 the netspace grew about half exabyte per day. Just think the same thing now. The netspace now could easily grow 5 exabyte per day if Chia jumps to 300. My final thought ? If somebody likes getting involved with CLI , hardware etc go get some drives and pass your time happily. If you do it to get rich just go grab some xch and leave them in a cold wallet and forget them. In order to get started you have to spend at least 2k $ for just a 150tb farm in best case (used hdds 10x16tb ,plotter, harware to connect) just to earn 1 xch per month. It is by far better to get around 60 xch because you simply would need 5 years to farm them. All without halving next year and without price pump which would increase netspace and reduce earnings.

Electricity price is too high for GPU mining, needed to move to something less power-consuming.
My 10 Huawei OceanStor S2300 have finally arrived. It’s going to be a very long time till I fill them with plots.

I can see from those round plugs, your not in Texas!!!

Nice setup. Are you planning on getting a rack ? What comes next after it ?

I can see you have some serious ventilation and electric setup.

I’ve already got a 42U rack, but I doubt that it’s going to hold 10 JBOD’s, because each is ~75 kg. So I’ll leave it as is.

I’ve been mining with GPUs for a long period of time when it was affordable to mine with $0.09/kWh, but now it’s just useless. So Chia is my only variant, because all the racks and a plotter consume just around 3 kW.

Why did you chose this JBOD in particular? Did you get a good deal or is it particularly good price/value ?

It was the cheapest on the aftermarket.

After a year of not powering on my small farm (which earned 4 XCH during 4 months last 2022) I decided to try Chia again.

Today, I just earned 2 XCH again after a month of turning it back on! I am happy for this little rig doing solo farming.
