Harvester not participating in challenges for periods of time

This is getting to be very frustrating for me. I’m running Windows 10 and only Chia 1.1.6 GUI version on it. I’ve reinstalled Chia from scratch, re-synced the blockchain, tried both CMD and GUI programs, and it still won’t consistently attempt proofs without these large gaps.

Are you trying to harvest a remote drive (mapped network drive)? Also, if so, are you trying to harvest multiple different mapped drives?

I eliminated mapped network drives and I’m still getting this issue. I currently have ~10 local USB drives.

How do the resources look on the system? CPU, Memory, network usage? Something is gumming up the works. If all that looks good, maybe you have a USB problem. Are you getting USB speed to each drive? Bad USB hub?

CPU and memory are pretty low. My inbound network traffic is pretty maxed since I’m transferring plots inbound to shared drives. Could that effect it?

Yes. That is your issue. If the Chia client can’t get the information fast enough, it just skips it. I run two networks, one for plotting and one for farming. That makes it so I can move large files around without causing the issue you are having.

EDIT: Good job for catching this in the first place. Most people don’t even pay close enough attention and wonder why they never win. I created a post last week on this exact subject.

Chiadog uncovers the truth

Everyone knows that the level of information provided by the Chia software is terribly limited. But I just discovered a whole other level. I have been running a single full node for a couple weeks. It has been farming/harvesting two network drives. Thanks, bud. I stopped moving plots over the network and the issue seems to be resolved. I guess I’ll plot locally and manually move drives to the farm when they’re full.

Seems to still be happening but less frequently now.

I started a single plot queue on my farmer to try to maximize plotting and CPU is at 40%, RAM is at 25%. You think that’s enough to interfere?

Going to stop plotting and test. Will report back.

That usage shouldn’t be enough to interfere. How many plots are you farming?

Full node- I don’t have any remote harvesters, just other PCs plotting.

I don’t understand then. Did you start all of chia via cli? You said you started the harvester. A harvester needs a full node to work with to get the signage information.

Ah, you’re right, my mistake. I ran chia start all so I did indeed start the full node, not just the harvester.

It also ran overnight with no issues from Chiadog which I’m excited about. Still unsure why when I start the GUI I run into issues though.

Just an update for anyone who comes across this… once my issues were solved by running the node and farmer via command line, I can add mapped network drives and farm them with an average of .5sec.
