Slower than expected plotting .. NVME too hot?

I don’t see my 970 Evo Plus in those articles. But I don’t doubt it is limited compared to the 980 Pro. Funny thing, I looked this morning at getting a 980 Pro when I read this and it was mid $400 on amazon. I thought, nah, I’ll wait until my tests are done and see what I can get out of the 970. I thought again and convinced myself to go ahead and order one and now they are $550+. I guess I’m not ordering one after all.

I did see the Corsair MP600 was a decent price. Any information on saturation and plot performance on that one. I is recommended on some of the lists I see.

The MP600 is recommended based on the good endurance, in the long run a very good thing but not so much for fast plotting. 2TB model won’t be able to use all its space for plotting. 2x1TB should be fine. In general 2x1TB in RAID0 seems to be a much safer bet in terms of speed.

Although I must say I’m getting a bit confused about the mp600, some people say it’s good, others say it’s horrible. In any case the sustained write speed is not so good, and everyone at least seems to agree that this is a bad thing for plotting.

I’m using 2x 1TB WD SN750 myself now. They do ok for speed, price is good, endurance…not so much  I guess I’ll find out how long they last.

You could also have a look if you can maybe find the OEM model of the 980 pro at better price.
PM9A1 (I think)

Also good to read:

where storage_jm comments/rips on that video and gives some more insight into the inner workings of ssd’s

I just ordered two 980 Pro 1TB’s. And I’ll run an SSD drive as a second Temp folder. Let’s see what I can get out of that per day.

Just let you know 980 Pro are good drives. Can tolerate 5 concurrent tasks per 1TB. Only 600TBW, but I guess your farm will be filled up before it fails.
