System takes a "breather"

Today I swapped out my Ryzen 3 2200g (4 cores, 4 threads) for a Ryzen 7 1700 (8 cores, 16 threads)

As I am plotting, it appears that my system from time to time takes a “breather” for about 15 to 20 seconds. The NVME drive and CPU go from resources being used, down to almost zero, even though I have 4 plots running. What would cause that?

can you provide

  • full spec
  • CPU cooler model and TDP in Watt
  • NVME model and cooler if any?

My experience - After changing CPU cooler from stock cooler, I find a good improvement from 70 to 50C. Ambient around 25-30C. I suspect if this is the case for you.

Its an HP 590, Ryzen 7 1700, 32GB Ram, 1 TB SK hynix Ggold NVME, stock mb (Sunflower 8433) and cooler. I did overclock the Ryzen 7 to 3.6 ghz, but made sure the voltage was low enough that the processor never gets above 65 degrees. (I’ve been monitoring it with Ryzen Master) I don’t know what TDP means…

Also, this didn’t happen when I had my Ryzen 3 2200G in, and I had that sucker running 100% almost constantly.
