Moderation is absent

Lack of moderation, or the forums quality dropping, that is an indicator. Nothing more. Nothing less.

And I dispute the heavy hand concept with trademark. Chia is more than just a coin. So the use of it in this url? 10 people could register domain names with chia in them, and I would wish them good luck for taking them all down. Only if people are cowards. Otherwise you could easily say, see you in court. And then it would probably come up that chia is also a thing called chia pet. It has two different meanings. It’s not as if they own the word chia. Do they? Maybe as it relates to crypto. But if they threatened legal action on me? I would just change the form to talk about Chia pet. Then you could see if they will come after you legally. I would have renamed it something like chia fan forum or added a couple words to the domain, and then Chia has no legs to stand on. They can threaten you but it’s a long road for them to actually win any sort of case against you. If you sign an agreement? Then I guess you’re not too smart. Why would you want those guys controlling anything that you do. That’s a big mistake. You’re telling me they have editorial control over this place? That’s more scary than anything.

The reason I bought up the poker? Because it’s a farce. It’s supposed to be a serious blockchain with real solutions for real problems. And then you want to justify it’s existence by showing that you can have a poker game? Because the poor game would be the most useful example of the coin currently, and to me, that’s the furthest thing from what they were supposed to be. Poker used to be the sleaziest industry ever. They’re the kind of companies that pay for their spam links all over the internet. Even Google took a negative approach to anything that was related to gambling or poker linkage. It’s dirty.

I think the biggest story out of all of this is that chia company has some sort of control over this forum. That to me is a little bit more disturbing than anything.

Totally agreed, also We The Users performing self governing in fact sounds like a strategy for grown-up people, so if community can’t handle this, well then this is not about moderation at all. Everybody should just stay pro chia without getting personal.

I don’t see anyone getting banned right now. You just have to look at the moderation usergroup to see that every moderator is away.

This conversation is straying away from the topic : we’re now talking about IP laws, bram’s poker experiment, and being “pro chia” whatever that means. That wouldn’t last 5 minutes on the (moderated) Discord.

Anyway.

The trademark is not about the domainname, but the use of the chia logo.

As I said before, the poker game isn’t about making a game (the game on chia blockchain that is meant to be a game is already out, to showcase Chia & Chialisp’s strength in that massive market). Poker game is about developing key pieces of technology that can be applied to many fields and applications. It’s a means to an end.

Well I think here you touch on the difference in thinking.

The first part, yes agreed a bit more moderation on people going over the line would be good.

But the second part is talking about baby-sitting imo, that won’t make a forum any better either.
IP in any case is relevant because it was brought up with regards to your own quote about Chia thinking of pulling it.

well anyway, still agree some more active mods would be a good thing

Definitely

Sure, but not starting a debate about it. I also can rant about poker being a game of skill and how you take money from the players (and not the casino), and how blockchain allows the removal of the possibility of cheating. Or how IP laws are only enforceable in jurisdictions that respect them and how blockchain is evolving in a globalized world where laws don’t have any kind of importance since there’s no global police to enforce them. Or how being pro-chia doesn’t have any impact on how a forum should run since it’s a place to exchange the pros and cons with like minded people who share a common interest. But that wouldn’t really have anything to do with moderators being away, so it’s not constructive to the conversation, it’s just ranting and it’s made to exhaust people into leaving. Thus taking over the space for scamming newcomers.

Ghost towns don’t attract scammers. If you feel a ghost town has a critical need for emergency services, in this case moderation, then go for a walk. Moderation is overkill for the level if activity here. Same people. It’s much ado about nothing. Heavy moderation would accomplish what? Dead forums don’t attract interest. They repel it. Take it as an indicator where this project is at. Nothing more, nothing less.

Minimal engagement is not the same as an absence of visitors.
Other than the site’s admin, no one here knows how many visitors stop by.

Scammers will likely continue to hit this site, because they know that hundreds of people (maybe thousands) peruse this forum. It costs scammers nothing, other than a bit of their time, to post a scam here. If they get one hit, it could pay off.

With that said…
I am against moderation, except for illegal activities, spam, and posts that have nothing, whatsoever, to do with the category their comments are placed under.

There is 0 moderation, and there is activity. It looks like you’re against all moderation.

With BTC and XCH halving happening simultaneously next year, and the rally that usually precedes during the 12 month period before the halving, it’s a great timing to bring new moderation or prevent a catastrophic outcome for the Chia brand next year.

The IPO is very close to happen and the netspace is stable. The project is fine despite what the doomers say on this forum.

I agree too.
