Chia netspace collapse

Any commentary on why Chia netspace collapsed the last couple of days?

A collision of bugs made it so most farmers couldn’t make blocks if they accepted no fee transactions. That started around 4pm Pacific on 2/14. 2.5.1 already had a mitigation for the issue so we immediately released it around 1am Pacific 2/15.

2.5.2 will have more specific fixes and will ship shortly as will the usual post mortem.

For those needing to upgrade to 2.5.1 please do so from the official downloads page: Chia Network

Or if installing from source do so from the official github account: Releases · Chia-Network/chia-blockchain · GitHub

Is it difficult to mention what caused it? Or is it an exploit that CNI is not willing to say? If it’s a critical exploit, shouldn’t there be a public announcement about upgrading and it’s reasons?

To quote Gene just 2 messages above:

There has been a lot of discussion on this in Discord that talks about what the problem was. However, putting together a coherent and accurate narrative on the issue takes time. All this while they are also wanting to issue another release to clean up a few things.

You can watch the Spacefarmers pool partials slowly move out of “invalid version” status as farmers update. I’m also shocked it takes this long for people to notice they aren’t getting paid.

But formal post mortem soon - as we always do.

My understanding of it, no promises on accuracy.

Interesting that it seems the much maligned NoSSD was the primary saver of Chia operations during this issue - which still is affecting netspace quite a bit.
Also not a good sign that one “developer” could have such a major negative impact.
